Considered as the city’s biggest sporting event, QCIM has increasingly become popular since it started in 2009. It is now listed in the calendar of international marathon events by the prestigious U.S. magazine Runner’s World.

This year, the event is expected to attract 15,000 local and international runners. The runners will be passing through challenging and picturesque routes that include Commonwealth Avenue, known as the widest road in the Philippines, the famous University of the Philippines campus and the scenic La Mesa Water Dam and Eco-Park.

The QCIM is a working showcase of the private-public sector partnership between the Quezon City government and the sponsors. It will be the culmination of all the city government’s sports activities for the year. As such, its continuing success is the personal concern of Mayor Herbert Bautista and Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte.

With the full backing of the Quezon City government, QCIM aims to promote Quezon City as a prime sports tourism destination and to advance its green campaign program. Aside from these, the event will also champion the cause of road safety by transforming Commonwealth Avenue into one of the safest and most disciplined highways in the country.

October 3, 2010 was a red letter day for new Runnex members as they took their oath administered by Mr. Art Disini, Runnex’s Chairman Emeritus.

More than 6.000 runners conquered the Commonwealth road on foot during the first Quezon City International Marathon.

Hundreds of marathoners got the chance to run from the historical Quezon City Hall to the newly developed La Mesa Dam Eco Park.

A multitude of runners from Kenya, Japan, U.S. enjoyed the amazing race.

It was historical… it was breath- taking… it was amazing... it was the first Quezon City International Marathon.

Runnex and the rest of the organizers will offer nothing less this 2010 as they prepare for the 2nd QCIM.

Runners can expect a more challenging course in the same festive atmosphere with greater prizes.

If the first QCIM was the best, the 2nd QCIM will definitely be better!

December 2010 is THE date.

More information will be revealed about this much awaited race on this website so don’t log out!

This year’s edition of the running clinic will remain the most important part of our advocacy to the running community, like it has always been the case over the past 27 years. As the current running boom enters its 3rd year, the clamor for a more meaningful, stress-free and injury-free training fundamental approach to running is higher. Running has to become more sustainable if it were to remain as the best means to fitness and health. This year’s clinic is our response to that call.

Dear Fellow Runners,

The Marathon (42K) has been described as the “Mt. Everest of Running... the one distance that many would want to conquer, a great source of pride and accomplishment.”

I was officially admitted as a  member of the Executive Runners Club Phil. Inc. (RUNNEX) after completing my first full marathon. Joining the club and marathoning is a life-changing experience. I found fulfillment in running together with friends who share the common love for the sports. More importantly, I found meaning in RUNNEX’s mission of promoting running as a way to a healthy lifestyle." Since 1983, I have been involved with RUNNEX in organizing races and free running clinics.

As your Race Director and fellow runner, it is my honor to share my experience and help bring back the true spirit of running and marathoning.

Join us on December 4, 2011 in a race organized by runners for the benefit of runners.

Cheers!

Gerardo “Gerry” Manlapaz

With official Garmin girl Bernie Cheng setting the pace, the Runnex delegates ran at 7.5/min pace to finish the 5km category that included a loooong stretch of uphill climb that had them huffing at the summit.

I never thought that an ordinary day in August last year would turn my life upside down when a close friend of mine invited me to jog in Ateneo. It was a love at first run. After that I began to run regularly, and with regularly, I mean everyday even during midnight. Until I realized, I had to keep some sense of sanity in that addiction of mine. My friends were starting to call me boring because there was not a moment when I did not talk about running. Feeling alienated and ostracized, I kept looking for people who could understand the joy and high I had. As a beginner, I was not aware of the huge community of runners in the country until I discovered the Runnex running clinic where I gained not only better running skills but more friends as well.

Three months after I got hooked into running, I took the courage to have my first half marathon. Some people called it crazy, I also thought it was and maybe that was the reason why I did it. But I would not have thought of this crazy idea if not for the Quezon City International Marathon.

Weeks before the QCIM, I’d see all those banners around Quezon City Circle on my way to office. They were so inviting, I could hear them screaming, telling me I should join the race. When I finally decided to join, I was only thinking of doing a 10K. All settled until I attended Runnex running clinic where a registration for QCIM was open. I approached the table and when asked what category I’d join, that wild idea I was toying in my mind what was came out of my mouth. I said, in confidence, without batting of eyelashes “21K po.” I filled out the registration form and ticked the check box for 21K. Read more

Preparations are underway for the annual 10k Runnex Executive Classic, which has been rescheduled on May 23, 2010. Originally held in December every year, the Runnex Board in 2009 decided to reassess its races after the successful holding of the QCIM in October 2009 and to refocus its activities for 2010 towards fewer but well-managed races to complement its reinvigorated running clinics for 5k, 10k, 21k and 42k running enthusiasts.Read more
