The 2nd Quezon City International Marathon (QCIM2) will take place on December 5, 2010, Sunday and will start and end at the Quezon Memorial Circle, fronting the Quezon City Hall.
QCIM was one of the largest road running events in the Philippines last year where an estimated 6,500 participants completed four running distances: 5k, 10k, Half-Marathon and Marathon. It was a truly international marathon with more than 70 runners from Canada, Singapore, Germany, The United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Taiwan, Korea and Kenya running the different distances. Kenya had the largest delegation with 13 runners.
PRIZE MONEY
As with last year, prize money would be given to the top 10 over-all winners in the male and female categories. Special cash prizes will also be given to the top Filipino male and female winners. Last year’s male winner, Kenyan Hillary Kipchumba clocked 2 hrs: 30mins and won the top prize of P300,000.00 while his female counterpart, Doreen Kitaka also won the same amount with a time of 2hrs: 58mins.
The top Filipino male runner was Cris Sabal (2:33) while top female local runner was Aileen Tolentino (3:03). Both received P150,000.00 each! Total prize money given was P3.0M and there were a total of 72 prizes for the winners in all categories.

ROUTE
This year’s route will mostly follow that of last year’s. The eastern lane of Commonwealth Avenue will again be closed to traffic and the La Mesa Dam Nature Reserve will again be accessed by the 42k runners. There will be some slight re-routing to avoid roads that caught heavy traffic. For example, the route to North Avenue will be discontinued and instead, the roads inside the Ayala Techno Hub and UP Campus will be tapped to compensate for the lost distance.
LOCAL GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT
The Quezon City government will once again be at the forefront in supporting this marathon and make it into a unique, authentic race, comparable with the best marathons in the Asian region. QCIM is expected to have the full support of its new, incoming local executives led by Mayor-elect Herbert Bautista and incoming Vice-Mayor Joy Belmonte, whose father, former Mayor Sonny Belmonte is now a Congressman in one of Q.C.’s districts.
While no race is perfect, the race organizers are fully aware of the problems that beset its inaugural staging and is ready to address those areas that need improvement.
Registration for QCIM2 will be announced soon. A Press and Bloggers launch of the event, a Carbo-Loading party, a marathon expo, a familiarization LSD run of the race course, Pacers recruitment and other related activities are presently being hatched.
